Sella/Sellino: Minimalist Stools Inspired by Bicycle Saddles

The Sella/Sellino stools were born out of the observation of two factors: the need for a lightweight and portable stool and the desire for an iconic design. The stools feature a simple and minimalistic structure, with a seat that resembles the shape of a bicycle saddle. This unique design element adds a touch of nostalgia and character to the stools, making them stand out in any environment.

What sets Sella/Sellino stools apart is their combination of simplicity and functionality. The stools are made of birch plywood with a thickness of 2.2 cm, ensuring both strength and lightness. The interlocking elements of the structure allow for easy assembly and disassembly, making these stools convenient for storage and transportation.

Measuring 37 cm x 37.6 cm, the Sella stool stands at a height of 75.7 cm, while the Sellino stool has a height of 48 cm. Despite their compact size, both stools provide a comfortable seating experience. The ergonomic shape of the seat, inspired by bicycle saddles, ensures a pleasant and supportive sitting position.

The design team at bibidesign, led by Alessandro Marzio Barra and Eugenio Barra, aimed to create stools that not only serve their purpose but also add aesthetic value to any space. The use of birch plywood and the attention to detail in the design process contribute to the overall visual appeal of the stools. The warm and tactile qualities of the material create a cozy atmosphere, making these stools inviting and comfortable.

The Sella/Sellino stools were first conceptualized in March 2013 in Turin and completed in April 2013. They were showcased at the Salone del Mobile in April 2013, gaining recognition for their innovative design and functionality.

These stools have received the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2015. This award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.
